2017 Parade Award Presentation and Dinner

On Sunday, March 12, Grand Marshal Clifford W. Lynch, Jr.,had the great honor of leading our parade down Chapel and Church followed by approximately 3,500 marchers. These marchers are part of competitive groups who strive to improve every year and they are judged and ranked for their performance. We honor the winning units with a plaque recognizing them at our annual Awards Night.

A long tradition on parade day has been to rename Church Street for a deceased member of our Irish Community. This year the parade committee lost one of its own, 1999 Grand Marshal, Michael McCann.   Mike was an active member of the Irish American Community Center and St. Mary’s Church in New Haven where he volunteered at the soup kitchen and sang in the choir.  He was proud of his military background and even used his wonderful voice to record a CD called “Soldiers’ Songs.” On Sunday, March 12, 2017, Church Street was named “Michael McCann Boulevard.” We presented his family with the commemorative signs at our annual Awards Night on April 28th.
